TOWSON, Md. – Towson University gymnastics head coach
Vicki Chliszczyk has announced the signing of
Melissa Temkov (Smithville, Ontario, Canada) and
Ally Wesoly (Waxhaw, N.C.) to National Letters of Intent (NLI).
Â
"I am thrilled to welcome these talented young women into our program," said Chliszczyk. "Both bring unique styles to their gymnastics and they will have an immediate impact on our program competitively. What's more, I love the commitment and work ethic that they exude. They will fit right in to the team culture we are continuing to develop, and be great ambassadors for our sport, and our program."
Â
Temkov finished 22nd in the all-around to help Team Ontario win the silver medal at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. A three year member of the national level team for Ontario, she has been named to the Ontario tour selection team four times. Temkov won gold on both vault and floor at the 2015 Ontario Championships and was a silver medalist in the all-around. She competes for the Burlington Gymnastics Club.
Â
"When I went for an unofficial visit, I fell in love with Towson and the gymnastics program," said Temkov. "I knew from that moment that no other school would compare to Towson. There is incredible academic support and the team is one big family. I knew I would feel right at home."
Â
Wesoly was the bronze medalist on bars at the 2015 Level 10 Regional Championship. She won bronze on beam and finished fifth on vault and in the all-around at the 2015 Level 10 NC State Championship. Wesoly qualified for Junior Olympic (JO) Nationals in 2014. She placed in the top-five for bars, beam and the all-around at the 2014 Level 10 Regional Championship. Wesoly also earned silver on beam and bronze in the all-around at the 2014 Level 10 NC State Championship. She competes for Southeastern Gymnastics.
Â
"I picked Towson because every time that I've been on campus, I've felt like I was at home," explained Wesoly. "I feel comfortable with all the girls, coaches and everything else Towson has to offer."
Â
Towson opens its 2015-16 season with its preseason Intrasquad Meet on Friday, December 4 in SECU Arena. The event, which begins at 7 p.m., is free and open to the public.
