TOWSON, Md. – Towson University women's tennis interim head coach
Jamie Peterson has announced the signing of Alexa Martinez to a National Letter of Intent (NLI).
Martinez is a native of Havre de Grace, Maryland and attends the John Carroll School. She competed for two years for the Patriots before continuing her career as an independent player
. A member of the 2017 graduating class at John Carroll, Martinez belongs to the National Honor Society.
While competing at John Carroll as a freshman and sophomore, Martinez was a two-time Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) B individual champion for No. 1 singles play. She posted a perfect record in IAAM B conference play and earned IAAM All-B Conference honors twice. Martinez helped the Patriots win their first ever IAAM B conference varsity championship in 2014.
Martinez won the West Draw singles at the 2016 New Balance High School Tennis Championship, presented by the USTA. She competed at the 2016 USTA National Clay Court Championships in both singles and doubles play. Martinez reached the round three qualifying match for singles play and earned a pair of doubles wins. She also competed in the 2016 USTA National Selection Tournament for singles and doubles.
Martinez reached the singles consolation quarterfinals for the USTA National Selection Tournament in November 2015. She also competed in doubles action at that tournament. She advanced to the round three qualifying match at the 2015 USTA National Clay Court Championships.
In the Babolat Recruiting Lists, Martinez is ranked sixth in Maryland, 23
rd in the Middle Atlantic Regiona and 153
rd nationally. Her highest national ranking was 143
rd while she held a best ranking of 16
th in the Middle Atlantic Region.
