TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will do its part to help the community as it participates in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Food Drive Challenge, Feb. 22-28. Any cans collected or funds raised will go to the Maryland Food Bank.
The goal of the CAA Food Drive is to address the need for donated food throughout our campus communities to stop hunger. 2016 marks the fourth annual conference-wide challenge to see which campus can collect the most non-perishable food items by weight. Fans can donate either non-perishable items or make a monetary donation. Every $1 raised during the food drive equals one pound of food in the competition.
Tiger fans have multiple ways to donate to the food drive. The ability to donate in person kicks off with the men's basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 25. Cans will also be collected at the gymnastics meet on Friday, Feb. 26, the men's lacrosse game on Saturday, Feb. 27 and the women's basketball game on Sunday, Feb. 28.
Fans who bring a canned good to the men's basketball game will be able to buy a ticket for $8. Fans who bring a canned good to gymnastics, men's lacrosse or women's basketball can purchase a ticket for $5.
Fans who will not be on campus next week can also donate to the Maryland Food Bank in the virtual food drive and assist the Tigers' cause.
