Marella, Stallings Set To Compete In NCAA East Preliminary

TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore Allison Marella and senior Ashleigh Stallings of the Towson University women's track and field team were selected to compete at the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary from May 26-28 in Jacksonville, Florida. The preliminary meet will be held at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Marella will compete in the 10,000-meter run after ranking 30th in the east region. She qualified with a time of 34:37.93 at the Raleigh Relays on March 25.

Stallings qualified in the javelin throw after using the last possible meet to earn the necessary mark. She recorded a distance of 44.90m (147'04") at the 2016 Eastern Conference Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Her distance is the 47th-best in the east region. Stallings won silver in the javelin throw at the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, posting a mark of 41.20m (135'02"), which ranks second on the Tigers' All-Time Top 10 list.

This is the first time both Marella and Stallings will compete at the preliminary meet. The duo is joined by 22 student-athletes from CAA schools. Marella will see familiar faces in the 10,000m run as William & Mary's Megan McGovern and Emily Stites, along with James Madison's Kathleen Stewart qualified. Northeastern's Nicole Genard will compete in the javelin throw along with Stallings.

To qualify for one of the two preliminary meets, student-athletes must rank in the top-48 in their respective event in the east or west, depending on geographic location. The top-24 relays are accepted to compete at each site. The top performers in each region will advance to compete in the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships scheduled to run June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
