TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team is ending its regular season in the same state where the journey began in November: Virginia. The Tigers make their annual visit to William & Mary for a Saturday matinee.
Â
From starting at George Mason and ending at William & Mary, Towson's season has been quite the entertaining thrill ride with plenty of adversity, tense overtimes, memorable rallies, dynamite dunks, tough defense, laughs, bus rides, flights and sensational scoring shows.
Â
Even though Towson is locked in as the No. 3 seed in next week's Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament and can't improve its position, this game means plenty for the Tigers, who have won 11 of their last 13 games after losing their first four conference contests.
Â
The last time these teams met, Towson pulled off its most dramatic and memorable victory of the season, an 82-80 victory at SECU Arena on Feb. 4. The Tigers rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit to earn the victory. Towson has rallied from double-digit deficits to beat William & Mary in two of its last three meetings. Last year in Williamsburg, Towson stormed back from an 11-point first-half deficit to beat the Tribe, 76-69.

Towson will be the No. 3 seeded team entering next weekend's CAA Tournament and will play Saturday, March 4 at 8:30 p.m. against an opponent to be determined in the final quarterfinal of the evening. The following seeds are set for the 2017 CAA Men's Basketball Championship: #1 UNCW, #2 College of Charleston, #3 Towson, #7 James Madison, #8 Hofstra, #9 Delaware and #10 Drexel. Tiebreakers are listed below.
Â
Tiebreaker Scenarios
We have listed the ones that impacts Towson's potential quarterfinal partner. Right now, Elon and William & Mary are 9-8 in conference play while Northeastern is 8-9. Elon hosts Delaware while Northeastern visits UNCW. If Northeastern loses, then the Tigers will open with Northeastern for the second straight season in a quarterfinal game.
Â
If Elon, Northeastern and William & Mary are tied for fourth at 9-9: Northeastern is the #4 seed, William & Mary is the #5 seed and Elon is the #6 seed. The three teams all went 1-1 against each other and all three would be 1-1 against #1 UNCW. Northeastern and William & Mary were 1-1 against #2 College of Charleston and Elon was 0-2, meaning Elon gets the #6 seed. Northeastern would earn the #4 seed based on its 1-1 record against #3 Towson and William & Mary (0-2) would be the #5 seed.
Â
If Elon and Northeastern are tied for fifth at 9-9: Northeastern is the #5 seed and Elon is the #6 seed. Elon and Northeastern split head-to-head and both would be 1-1 against #1 UNCW. Northeastern would earn the #5 seed based on its 1-1 record against #2 College of Charleston.
Â
If William & Mary and Northeastern are tied for fifth at 9-9: Northeastern is the #5 seed and William & Mary is the #6 seed. William & Mary and Northeastern split head-to-head and both would be 1-1 against #1 UNCW and #2 College of Charleston. Northeastern would earn the #5 seed based on its 1-1 record against #3 Towson.
Â
30 Is The New 20
Mike Morsell delivered his second 32-point scoring performance this season. He scored 32 points each against William & Mary and Elon. It's the first time since the 2012-13 season that a player for Towson has scored at least 30 points in a game twice during the same season. Jerrelle Benimon scored 30 at Temple on Dec. 12 and 31 at George Mason on Feb. 26.
Â
19 And Counting
This is the third time in the last five years, Towson has won at least 19 games. It's the sixth time since Towson has been a Division I program (first year was 1979-80) that it has won at least 19 games in a single season (1988-89, 1990-91, 1993-94, 2013-14, 2015-16 & 2016-17). The last three have been under
Pat Skerry. With one more win, Towson will have 20 wins for the fourth time as a Division I program. It will also be the first time that Towson has posted consecutive 20-win seasons as a Division I program. Towson had consecutive 20 win seasons during its time as a Division II program in 1976-77 (27-3) and 1977-78 (26-4).

Adala Moto's Awesome Effort
