CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Towson University men's swimming and diving program impressed on day three of the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming & Diving Championships, setting a pair of school records and a conference meet record, posting two NCAA 'B' cut times and winning three medals.
Towson is in third-place with 385.5 points after the third day of the four-day conference meet. William & Mary leads with 624.5 points, followed by Drexel (477).
Jack Saunderson won gold in the 100-yard butterfly with a school record and conference meet record of 47.01, also a NCAA 'B' cut time. The 400-yard medley relay team set a school record (3:15.14) to win silver.
Nick Breschi won silver in the 100-yard backstroke and posted a NCAA 'B' cut of 48.32 in the morning trials.
How it Happened
- Jack Saunderson set a school record and conference meet record to win the 100-yard butterfly, timing a NCAA 'B' cut of 47.01. He improved upon his trials time of 47.26, which was also a school and conference meet record. Noah Pritchard was the runner-up in the 'B' finals, placing 10th overall (49.52). Zach Bishop finished 16th overall with a time of 50.45.
- In the 100-yard backstroke finals, Nick Breschi won silver with a time of 48.55. He earned a NCAA 'B' qualifying time of 48.32 in the morning trials. Zach Bishop finished seventh (50.48) while Owen Robinson won consolation 'B' finals to finish ninth overall (50.88).
- The 400-yard medley relay team of Nick Breschi, Jeremy Liu, Jack Saunderson and Nick Essing combined for a silver medal with a school record time of 3:15.14.
- Brandon Ress placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.22). Nick Essing won the consolation 'B' finals (9th overall) after timing 1:39.45. Will Dougherty finished 13th overall (1:41.52) and Aaron Magazine followed in 15th-place (1:41.86).
- Jeremy Liu timed 56.09 in the 100-yard breaststroke to finish fifth. Ryan O'Leary followed in eighth-place (56.52) and Stefan Keller in 13th-place (58.76).
- Colin Roddy finished seventh in the 400-yard individual medley, timing 4:01.43. Ben Johnston placed 13th with a time of 4:00.51.

The four-day meet concludes tomorrow with morning prelims at 10 a.m. and evening finals at 6 p.m. The morning session will feature time trials for the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and one-meter diving. The 1,650-yard freestyle will take place at approximately 3 p.m.
