CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The Towson University men's swimming and diving program finished third with 597.5 points at the 2017 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming & Diving Championships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. William & Mary won the conference title with 953.5 points, followed by Drexel in second-place (752).

Jack Saunderson set a school record and conference meet record to win the 200-yard butterfly with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:43.44.
Nick Breschi won silver in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:46.06 (NCAA 'B' cut). The pair also won bronze as members of the 400-yard freestyle relay, along with
Nick Essing and
Brandon Ress.

Saunderson was named the Most Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Meet after winning two gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals. He set five school records, two conference meet records and posted a pair of NCAA 'B' cut times.

Towson impressed over the four day meet, setting six school records, two conference meet records, posting four NCAA 'B' cuts and winning 10 medals.

How it Happened
- Jack Saunderson impressed in the 200-yard butterfly, winning the event with a school record, conference meet record and NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:43.44. That time is the fastest in league history for the 200-yard butterfly. He improved upon his previous meet record of 1:45.02, set at the 2016 CAA Championships. Noah Pritchard finished fourth (1:48.30) and Matt Sieffert placed 14th (1:55.59).
- Nick Breschi won silver in the 200-yard backstroke with a NCAA 'B' cut of 1:46.06. Zach Bishop finished eighth after timing 1:50.26. Colin Roddy placed 11th overall, third in the consolation 'B' finals (1:50.04) followed by Owen Robinson in 12th-place (1:51.57). Â
- The 400-yard freestyle relay of Nick Essing, Jack Saunderson, Brandon Ress and Nick Breschi won bronze with a time of 3:00.52.
- Jeremy Liu placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:02.28) and Ryan O'Leary finished eighth (2:03.14). Stefan Keller placed 13th (2:05.41) followed by Ben Johnston in 14th (2:06.69).
- Nick Essing took fifth in the 100-yard freestyle, timing 44.93. Matt Essing placed 16th (47.24).
- Towson took sixth and seventh-place in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Aaron Magazine timed 15:47.15 to finished sixth, followed by Matt Sieffert in seventh-place (15:49.30). Brandon Ress placed 11th (16:03.04) while Hunter Wright finished 13th (16:03.73) and Will Dougherty followed in 14th (16:06.23).
- On the three-meter boards, Jake Casey finished eighth (174.95) while David Hogan placed 11th (144.45).
