One of the top quarterbacks ever to play for the Tiger football team, Ron Meehan '81 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2006.
A four-year starter who set nearly every school record during his career, he was the team’s Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and senior. From 1977 to 1980, he passed for a school record 6,164 yards and led the Tigers to a 23-13-1 record. In 1978, he ranked sixth in NCAA Division III as he passed for 1,881 yards and threw 14 touchdown passes.
In 1979, he quarterbacked the team to an impressive 9-1-0 record in their first season of NCAA Division II play. A senior co-captain in 1980, he passed for a record 1,919 yards while completing 177 passes in 320 attempts, both school records. He was named as the ECAC Division II Offensive Player of the Week three times as a senior. He was named to the All-ECAC Division II team and earned honorable mention All-America honors.
In 1981, he went to training camp with the Oakland Raiders and he spent the 1982 pre-season with the Baltimore Colts. He served as an assistant with the Towson football program while his son, Ryan, played tight end for the Tigers from 2003-06. He is a Baltimore native who graduated from Woodlawn High School.
