Rob Ambrose, Terrance West Earn FCS Hardware

FRISCO, Texas - On Friday night at the annual FCS Awards Presentation, Rob Ambrose received the Eddie Robinson Award as the top coach in NCAA FCS while freshman Terrance West earned the first-ever Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in FCS.

Although both of them were honored to receive their awards, both of them were eager to share the hardware.

Moments after receiving his award from the legendary Jerry Rice, Terrance West said, "I am up here by myself receiving this award. But, this award is for my team. They deserve it as much as I do. I couldn't have done anything without them.

"I learned a long time ago that there is no 'I' in the word team," he added. "Well, there isn't an 'I' in Terrance West."

The Northwestern High School graduate also thanked his mother, Onika West, and his grandmother, Yolanda Stevenson. Both of them made the trip to Texas and were in the audience to see him receive the award.

West earned the award by rushing for nearly 1300 yards while scoring an NCAA FCS-leading 29 touchdowns.

Coach Ambrose called his award a "great honor." He also added, "As much as I am honored, I consider this a group award. I have a tremendous, tremendous coaching staff and they have a tough job putting up with me. I am very grateful to them.

"I am also grateful to my players," he added. "They are something special. I'd also like to thank the entire Towson community and our Athletics Director, Mike Waddell. He is very supportive."

Named as the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year, Ambrose added, "There are also three other people I need to thank. The first is Jon Dahlquist, our Director of Football Operations. He is my right arm, my left arm and probably half my brain.

"I also need to thank my brother, Jared, who is our Quarterbacks Coach and he does a great job," he added. "Finally, I want to thank my wife, Melissa. She does everything for me."

In addition, linebacker Matt Evans of New Hampshire was named as the winner of the Buck Buchanan Award as the top defensive player in NCAA FCS. Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell of Eastern Washington was the winner of the 25th Walter Payton Award.
