Burke leads @Towson_WTEN at Navy Tournament

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Junior Ariel Burke advanced to the Flight C finals for the Towson University tennis team on day two of the Blue and Gold Invitational hosted by Navy.

Burke started her day with a 6-7(5), 6-4, 10-7 victory over Megan Douglass of James Madison in the quarterfinals. She followed that up with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Taylor Washington of Pittsburgh. Burke will now face Amanda Wickman of Pittsburgh in the Flight C final.

In Flight A quarterfinal action, sophomore Ayana Dow fell to Taylor Pinchoff of James Madison, 6-3, 6-0.

The Tigers had a pair of players in the Flight B quarterfinals on Saturday. Senior Andrea Samlin battled Mimi Hamling of George Washington hard. Hamling was able to post the 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 victory. Junior Nisha Shah fell to Ruxandra Andriescu of James Madison 6-3, 6-4.

In the Flight D quarterfinal action, Christina Carpenter of George Washington defeated sophomore Cailey Easdale 6-2, 6-2. Senior Moriah Burke battled Isabella Escobar of George Washington before falling 3-6,6-4, 10-7.

In A Flight Consolation Doubles action, Emani Decquir and Stefanie Ton of Navy defeated Burke and Dow 8-6. Nani Lizana and Samlin fell to Cara Wirth and Katherine Bulling of James Madison 9-8 (5).

Shah and Lorena Ferrer defeated Paige Polizois and Bianca Derrick of Hofstra 8-3 in B Flight Consolation Doubles action.

Burke's finals match on Sunday will wrap up the Tigers action in the Blue and Gold Invitational.
