TOWSON, MD. –
Towson University women's softball head coach Lisa Costello
has announced that she has added five talented student-athletes to the 2019 class during the National Letter Intent signing period.
Samantha Carson, Alexis Mann, Briana Ramirez, Lauren Ringhiser and Madyson Wood
make up the elite class ranging from California to right here in Maryland.
"We are ecstatic to add these talented student-athletes to our program," said Costello. "These group of ladies will continue to help build our program and add the tradition of excellence here. This is a very versatile class that excels in the classroom and on the field. We are proud to welcome them to the Towson family."
Samantha Carson C, Yucaipa, Ca. (So Cal Athletics)
Went to California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) three years in a row and won CIF Championship in 2018. Carson was on the honor roll all four years and was scholar athlete and league champs three times.
Alexis Mann C, UTL, Prince Frederick, Md. (Wagner's)
The Prince Frederick, Maryland native received honorable mention in the 2018 Spring All-Met and was first team all-conference. During her freshmen year she started at first base and batted .394, had the second most RBIs in county, was a regional champion and earned conference honorable mention. Sophomore year her team was regional champions. A sportsmanship award finalist, she had 28 RBI's and fewest strikeouts. Mann's junior year consisted of a state championship, regional championship and conference championship. She was offensive player of the year and received honorable mention All-Met. She set the school record in home runs (seven) that year as well. She was on the honor roll every year in high school and on the all-state academic team for having a 3.25 GPA or higher in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Briana Ramirez, OF, Lake Elsinore, Ca. (SoCal Athletics)
The outfielder Lake Elsinore, California native has a career batting average of .453. Her squad was undefeated league champions two years in a row and league champions three years in a row. She has a career on base percentage of .524 and 107 career hits. Ramirez was the 2018 Temescal Canyon (TCHS) Female Athlete of the Season, varsity most valuable player and first-team all-league. She was All-Academic 2015-18, 2017 All-Tournament team and 2016 second-team all-league.
Lauren Ringhiser, OF, Gahanna, Ohio (Beverly Bandits)
Ringhiser is All-District first team in 2018 and All-OCC Ohio second team. She also has lettered in volleyball. The Gahanna, Ohio native has played in various positions during her four years that include pitching, center field and midfield.
Madyson Wood, P, Southampton County, Va. (Virginia Legends)
Wood was a part of the Indians team that was the first to ever make it to states in 2018 and made it to quarterfinals. She was district player of the year, first team all-state and region in 2018. A standout in the classroom making the honor roll all four years. Wood's was also first team all-district in 2016 and 2017 as well as first team all-region in 2017 and 2018 and first team all-state in 2018.
