– Towson University has named Terry Porter
as its Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.
Porter comes to Towson from Loyola University Maryland where he was the Assistant A.D. for Compliance. He was the Greyhounds' primary point-of-contact for compliance and legislation issues since 2016.
"I am extremely excited and honored for the opportunity to further the mission of Towson athletics and be a resource to its student-athletes, coaches, staff and campus constituents," Porter said. "Towson University is a special place. My family and I look forward to joining the Tiger family."
Porter, who joined the Loyola staff in May 2015, was also an assistant director for NCAA eligibility. He led all of Loyola's compliance efforts on a daily basis while also serving as the department's eligibility coordinator.
Porter implemented and developed Loyola's NCAA compliance education program, served as a liaison to the University's Registrar and was the liaison to prospective student-athletes for initial eligibility certification.
Before working at Loyola, Porter worked at the University of South Carolina as an assistant director of compliance from 2013-2015. He managed the student-athlete opportunity fund, oversaw roster management and processed all monetary-related issues for student-athletes, graduate assistants and managers in addition to chairing the department's Financial Aid Subcommittee.
Prior to working at South Carolina, Porter spent more than two years at his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he was the assistant director of compliance before serving as the school's director of compliance.
Porter graduated from Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry in 2008, and he earned his Master of Science in health and human performance with a concentration in sport management from Middle Tennessee State University in 2011. While in graduate school, the Knoxville, Tennessee, native interned at Vanderbilt University.
"I am excited to add Terry Porter
to our senior management team as Associate AD for Compliance," Towson Deputy Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator Tricia Turley-Brandenburg said. "Terry's experience in compliance at Loyola, South Carolina, Chattanooga and Vanderbilt as well as his passion for serving student-athletes make Terry a great hire. I look forward to the experience Terry will also contribute as part of our student-athlete development team and as a sport administrator, which will help us continue to Build Greatness for Towson Athletics."
Porter is a 2015 graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute, and he has served in several community services roles, including his current role as a mentor for Man2Man with Loyola's ALANA Services office.
Porter and his wife, Jamie, have two sons, Jaxon and Eli, and live in Howard County, Maryland.
