Second Time Around
The Tigers' men's and women's swimming & diving teams return to Fairfax, Virginia, this week for the Patriot Invitational, hosted by George Mason at the Jim McKay Natatorium. This marks the Tigers' second invitational of the 2022-23 season, with the Tiger Winter Open also slated for February at Burdick Pool. Other competing teams include American University, Florida Atlantic University, Marist College and the University of Richmond. Apart from Richmond, which only has a women's team participating, all four schools' men's and women's programs will be competing this weekend.
 
Neither the men's nor women's programs have competed in the Patriot Invitational before. Yet, both squads have faced off with George Mason earlier this season.

  • The Tigers dropped the opening meet to the Patriots 159-139 in Fairfax, Virginia.
  • Towson received first-place finishes in four individual races and the 1-meter dive.

  • The Tigers fell to the Patriots 145-133 in Fairfax.
  • Towson collected first-place finishes in two individual races and both diving events.
 
Where They Stand
The CSCAA issued its first swimming and diving top 25 poll on October 13. In the first poll, none of the teams competing this weekend received votes. The next CSCAA top 25 poll will be released on November 17, 2022.
 
CAA Women's Diver of the Week | November 1, 2022
  • Shannon Parrau was awarded the CAA Women's Diver of the Week award on Nov. 1.
  • The freshman posted a winning score of 254.25 on the 1-meter board.
  • Sha claimed first place on the 3-meter board with a score of 252.60.
  • Parrau is undefeated through six diving events this season.
 
CAA Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week | November 1, 2022
  • Katie Nunez was named the CAA Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 1, following the Thomas Murphy Invitational.
  • Nunez collected three individual wins in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 breast.
  • Her 23.38 in the 50 free was just four one-hundredths of a second off the Mangione Pool record.
  • She clocked in at 50.99 in the 100 free.
  • Her 1:03.90 in the 100 breast is the fastest in the CAA this season.
  • She was also featured in the 400 medley, 400 free and 800 free relays.
 
CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week | November 1, 2022
  • Brian Benzing collected his second CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week award on Nov. 1.
  • He won the 100 fly at 47.61, currently marked as the 44th fastest time in Division I.
  • His time of 20.45 in the 50 free was one-one hundredth of a second off his fastest time in the event so far this season.
  • Benzing was also featured in four relays – the 800 free, 400 free, 400 medley and 200 medley relays - all of which are the top times in the conference.
 
CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week | October 25, 2022
  • Brian Benzing was named the CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 25.
  • Benzing won two individual events and was a feature in team's winning 200 free relay.
  • Benzing's 20.44 in the 50 free marked the fastest time in the CAA this season and ranks eighth in Towson program history.
  • In the 100 fly, his 48.01 is similarly the CAA-best and ranks sixth in Tigers' history.

First-year head coach Anthony Bruno has named the captains for the men's and women's swimming and diving programs.
 
Women's captains: Victoria Dichak, Ava Enriquez and Katie Nunez.
 
Men's captains: Brian Benzing, Ryan Bookstein and Patrick Flint.
