Staten Island, N.Y. – After sending one athlete to the Boston University Season Opener in early December, the rest of the Towson University women's indoor track team is set to open its 2023 season at the Penn 10 Team Select on Jan. 14.

Facility: Ocean Breeze Complex – Staten Island, N.Y.
Field: The Tigers will be competing against Brown, FDU, LaSalle, Penn, Rutgers, Stony Brook, Villanova and Wagner.
Race Times: 60m hurdles prelims, women long jump and women shot put all start at 4:00 p.m. The meet is estimated to conclude at 8:00 p.m.

Seven freshmen are to make their debut as collegiate athletes tomorrow;

In the Classroom and Community
The team aimed to give back to the community, leading a Personal Hygiene Drive for the Michelle Becote-Jackson Fresh Mart Food Pantry and Pace Clinic for Summit Park Elementary. The Tigers also volunteered at the Baltimore Marathon.
Hard work in the classroom proved to pay off at the conclusion of fall semester. The cross-country team earned an overall team term GPA of 3.4 and cumulative team GPA of 3.3 for track and field. 14 of the student-athletes made the Dean's list.
Indoor 2021-22 Recap
The Black & Gold had a busy slate, participating in eight meets as a team and sending one athlete to the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Alum
Crystal Johnson paved the way for the Tigers, earning six first place finishes, a program record in the 200m (24.13) and a seventh-place finish at the USA Track & Field Championships.
Captain
Cristal Cuervo made an impact on the team as a freshman, collecting seven top-five finishes including a second-place finish at the VMI Team Challenge where she set a personal best of 7.75 in the 60m. At the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship Cuervo earned another personal best in the 200m after coming in third. The Panama native returned to her hometown at the conclusion of the outdoor season to compete in the 2022 Juegos Bolivarianos Valledupar, taking fifth in both the 200m and 400m.
Captain
Fatimah Owens will be another athlete to look out for this season, concluding the 2021-22 indoor campaign with three top-five finishes in the weight throw including a first-place finish and personal best of 18.30m at the Rutgers Open. Owens achieved four top-five finishes in the shot put as well.
Graduate student
Georgia Coleman ended last year's slate with five top-five finishes in weight throw, two of which were gold medal performances at the Bison Opener (18.72) and Patriot Games (18.87). Coleman also earned four top-10 finishes in the shot put, including a silver medal at the Penn State Tune-Up (3.06m).
At the conclusion of the season, the Tigers saw a fourth-place finish at the ECAC Championships, earning a total of 45 points.
