TOWSON, Md. – New Towson University head coach
Pete Shinnick has completed his first coaching staff for the upcoming 2023 season, adding
Harry Richards and
DJ Steward as assistant coaches. Richards will work with the running backs while Steward will work with the wide receivers.
Harry Richards – Running Backs
Richards returns to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), having worked in collegiate football since 2015.
Richards comes to Towson after five years at Stetson University as the running backs coach, also being the kickoff return coach in 2022 and formerly being the interim offensive coordinator. The Hatters averaged 30 points a game in the last four games of 2021 as he coached the school's all-time rushing leader. He previously had stops at Texas State, Mississippi State, Rutgers and James Madison.
Richards graduated from JMU in 2017.
DJ Steward – Wide Receivers
Steward will coach on the East Coast for the first time and comes to Towson after being an assistant coach at Idaho State.
Before Idaho State, he was an assistant coach for Pittsburg State in Fall 2021 and Dayton in Spring 2021, combining to coach a pair of all-league wide receivers. He was a graduate assistant for the 2020 Ball State team which won the Mid-American Conference and the Arizona Bowl. He had previous stops at Second Baptist High and his alma mater of DePauw.
Steward graduated from DePauw in 2015, being a wide receiver and special teams player for the Tigers.
