TOWSON, Md. - The 2014-15 school year saw plenty of success on the field, on the court and in the pool for the Tiger Athletics Department. Over the next several weeks, TowsonTigers.com will look back at the Top 10 moments from the 2014-15 year.
The past year proved to be a balanced one across the board as voting by members of the athletics staff saw 26 different moments receive a vote and 13 of the 19 teams be recognized in either the Top 10 or the honorable mention.
The Top 10 moves to number nine with a huge victory over a crosstown rival that was 19 years in the making for men's lacrosse.
Nineteen years is a long time to go without a win over a crosstown rival. To put that in perspective the last time the Tigers beat Johns Hopkins the current freshmen were not even born yet.
Trailing 3-1 to the number five team in the country with 9:13 left in the second quarter, the Tigers stepped up and took control of the game.
Towson held JHU without a goal for a 23:46 span and used a 5-0 run of its own during that stretch to take a 6-3 lead in the game.
Andrew Hodgson scored twice during the run that bridged the second and third quarters while
Ryan Drenner had a pair of assists.
Johns Hopkins scored two of the final three goals in the game but the Tigers held on for the 7-5 victory.
Hodgson and
Joe Seider tallied a pair of goals, Drenner finished with a goal and dished out a game-high three assists in the win. Goalkeeper
Tyler White was impressive the entire night for Towson, posting 12 saves.
Pat Conroy stepped up in the face-off X for the Tigers, winning seven of 10. Towson outshot Johns Hopkins, 34-31, and converted 15 of 17 clear attempts.
The win is Towson's first over a Top 5 opponent since also knocking off then-No. 5 Johns Hopkins, 13-12, on the road on April 27, 1996. It's also the first win for the Tigers over the Blue Jays since that game and the first home win for Towson over its crosstown rivals since 1989.
