TOWSON, Md. - The 2014-15 school year saw plenty of success on the field, on the court and in the pool for the Tiger Athletics Department. Over the next several weeks, TowsonTigers.com will look back at the Top 10 moments from the 2014-15 year.
The past year proved to be a balanced one across the board as voting by members of the athletics staff saw 26 different moments receive a vote and 13 of the 19 teams be recognized in either the Top 10 or the honorable mention.
The Top 10 moves to number eight with a game-winning shot from one of the men's basketball freshmen.
Â
Put the ball in my hands so I can make the game-winning shot. It's a thought that has crossed the mind of many an athlete.
On January 22 at Elon, freshman guard
Mike Morsell got the chance to do just that for the Tiger men's basketball team.
The Tigers found themselves down 46-39 with 7:42 to play following a
Christian Hairston jumper.
Morsell started the Tiger comeback by hitting jumpers on back-to-back possessions.
John Davis then took over by scoring five-straight points to give the Tigers the lead back, 49-48, with 3:04 to play.
Â
Elon freshman
Elijah Bryant calmly came down and stepped into a three-pointer to give the Phoenix a two-point lead with just over a minute to play. Towson responded again as
Walter Foster knocked down a pair of free throws with 58 seconds showing on the clock and tied the game at 51-51.
After Foster pulled down a defensive rebound with 31 seconds remaining, Towson elected to not call a timeout and put the ball in the hands of
Byron Hawkins. Hawkins dribbled out near midcourt until the clock got under 10 seconds. He drove to the left wing and kicked it out to Morsell. Morsell did a shot fake, took one dribble and pulled up for the game winner. His basket came with 1.7 seconds to play and came from 15-feet out.
