2016-17 Tiger Top 10: No. 7 A Three-Peat in Lacrosse

TOWSON, Md. – The 2016-17 school year provided Towson Tiger fans with plenty of exciting moments on the court, on the field, the course and in the pool. Moment seven takes fans inside Johnny Unitas® Stadium where the men's lacrosse team was looking for a three-peat.

As the two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) conference champion, protecting the bullseye on your back can prove tough. However, for the Towson University men's lacrosse team that proved to be no problem the first weekend in May.

For the third straight year, the Tigers began their CAA Tournament run with a semifinal matchup against the Drexel Dragons. Towson outscored Drexel 6-2 in the second and third periods and cruised to an 8-4 victory. Tyler Konen, Tyler Young and Mike Lynch all scored two goals in the game while Alex Woodall went 14-for-16 from the faceoff X. Matt Hoy made seven saves, the majority of which came in the first half to seal the win.

The semifinal win advanced the Tigers to the CAA Championship game where they took on UMass. Towson jumped out to an early lead as it outscored the Minutemen 4-1 in the first 15 minutes of the game. After each team scored once in the second period and once in the third, the Tigers got their offense going in the fourth, tacking on three more goals for a 9-4 win.

With the win, the Tigers punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for a third straight season and 14th time as a Division I program. Four Tigers were named to the CAA's All-Tournament Team, with Lynch, Woodall and Chad Patterson earning a spot. Hoy was tapped as the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, becoming the second-ever Tiger goalie (Andrew Wascavage, 2013) to earn the honor.
