TOWSON, Md. – The 2016-17 school year provided Towson Tiger fans with plenty of exciting moments on the court, the field, the course and in the pool. On Monday, June 12, TowsonTigers.com will start revealing the Top 10 as voted on by members of the external affairs staff.
Sixteen of the Tiger teams had a moment from their season receive at least one vote. Today we are sharing the five moments that finished just outside the Top 10 – the honorable mention moments. These five moments showcase the success of some of our female student-athletes athletes.
- Ashley Illenye was the lone Tiger to be named an event champion at the CAA Championship in February. Her win helped the women's swimming and diving team finish third overall at the conference meet. She won the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:40.07. Read the complete recap from that day of the CAA Championship here.Â

- Ksenia Safonova became the first Tiger in track and field program history to toss over 200 feet in the hammer throw at the Delaware Open in April. She won the event with a school record, a Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium facility record and an ECAC Outdoor Championship qualifying mark of 61.78m (202'8"). - Towson women's soccer knocked of UNCW at home for the first time since the 1994 campaign as senior Marissa Green knocked home the game-winning goal in the 25th minute on a double-assist from classmate Emily Marshall and rookie Justine Stoner. The 1-0 victory at the Tiger Soccer Complex in October snapped a four-game slide for the Tigers against perennial power UNCW. Read the complete recap from that game here.

- Alexis Hios recorded a hole-in-one in the final round of the Spring Citrus Challenge in March. She recorded the milestone on the par three fourth hole. She used a five-iron and the ball navigated the 154 yards and funneled it right into the hole. Hios carded a two-over 74 to finish with a three round score of 226. She finished the event tied for 16th overall to lead the Tigers. Read the complete recap from the final round here.

- Guards Raven Bankston and Sianni Martin combined to score 21 points in the fourth quarter to lead the women's basketball team to a 60-55 win at James Madison The Tigers, who trailed by nine with 5:25 to play, earned their first ever win in Harrisonburg with the comeback. Towson's season sweep marked the first time the Dukes have lost two CAA games and have been swept in a CAA series since the 2012-13 season. Read the complete game recap here.
