TOWSON, Md. – The 2016-17 school year provided Towson Tiger fans with plenty of exciting moments on the court, on the field, the course and in the pool. Moment number six takes fans inside SECU Arena for a last second comeback from the men's basketball squad.
Don't give up until the fat lady sings!
On Feb. 4 against William & Mary,
Mike Morsell and the Towson University men's basketball proved why playing hard until the final buzzer is so important. A daring comeback provided a thrilling victory on Autism Awareness day.
A three-point play at 16:46 gave the visiting Tribe a 56-39 advantage. It was William & Mary's largest lead of the game.
An 11-0 Towson run, which featured nine straight points from
John Davis, pulled the Tigers to within five, 61-56, with 10:36 to play.
The two teams battled on both ends of the court over the next several minutes as the William & Mary lead fluctuated between one and seven points. Towson went ahead briefly as
Arnaud William Adala Moto made a lay-up for a 77-75 edge with 3:06 to go.
William & Mary called timeout following that bucket and scored the game's next five points for an 80-77 lead with 46 seconds to play.
A pair of free throws from
Brian Starr pulled the Tigers to within one, 80-79, with 24 seconds left on the clock. A William & Mary turnover with 21 seconds to go gave Towson a chance and set the stage for Morsell's big shot.
The Tigers brought the ball up the court and kicked it out to Morsell, who was positioned in front of the Towson bench. He knocked down a jumper with 7.6 seconds to play, which gave Towson an 82-80 advantage. William & Mary's last-chance basket did not go in and the Tigers claimed victory.
