Despite Towson falling 171-117 at Penn State in its season-opener, Saunderson impressed in the butterfly events. Saunderson won both the 100- and 200-yard butterflies. He timed 49.47 in the 100-yard and 1:50.25 in the 200-yard. He also was a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay that timed 1:27.04. Saunderson also swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished third with a time of 1:34.43. Towson won four events, including the three that Saunderson was a part of.
