Tigers in the Community

For the Towson Tigers, success and achievement go hand in hand on the field, and in the community. Our student-athletes have an on-going commitment 42668to be a driving force of positive change in the Greater Baltimore Community. Through community service initiatives planned by our numerous athletic teams, Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), and the Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility Office, the Tigers set the standard for community service and volunteerism.

The student-athletes achieved new heights in the community during the 2017-18 academic school year. For the sixth consecutive year, the Tigers successfully completed over 10,000 hours of community service throughout the greater Baltimore area. Furthermore, the Tigers finished second nationally and led the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in the 2018 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition.

As a result of their dedication and persistence in the Baltimore community, Towson athletics was a runner-up for the National Association of Collegiate Directors Athletics (NACDA) Fiesta Bowl Community Service award.

Over the year, the Tigers spent time visiting  schools and hospitals, assisting with the Senior and Special Olympic Programs, cleaning up the community, participating in blood drives, participating in charity runs such as the Susan G. Komen "The Race for the Cure," collecting personal care items for those in need and clothing for the needy, book, t-shirt and stuffed animal drives, stream clean-ups, assisting with university move-in days, and sport skills clinics are just a few examples of community outreach activities sponsored by our teams in the past. In addition, our student-athletes conduct skills clinic with different youth groups in Baltimore. Involvement in these programs fosters an environment for building positive relationships in the Greater Baltimore Community while creating opportunities for team bonding, leadership skills and the wonderful feeling of having made a difference.
