TOWSON, Md. ? Sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Sample made three saves in her second start of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers (3-9-1, 0-4-1) dropped a 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association decision against UNC Wilmington (7-5-1, 3-2-0) at the Towson Center Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon.
Freshman forward Kelly Dodd and senior forward Sarah Matthews each scored a goal and added an assist as the Seahawks earned their third win in the last four games while setting a season high with their four-goal performance.
Matthews gave the Seahawks a quick 1-0 lead less than six minutes into the first half when she took a pass from freshman midfielder Erin Pardini and scored her second goal of the season. Less than six minutes later, Dodd upped the Seahawks' advantage to 2-0 when she tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season off a Matthews assist.
The Seahawks added two insurance goals in the final six minutes to secure the victory. With 6:34 remaining, senior midfielder Maddy Bullington tallied her first goal of the season off a feed from Dodd before freshman forward Ashley Dohrer scored the first goal of her college career with 2:17 left, extending the UNC Wilmington cushion to 4-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Chandler Follett made three saves to earn the shutout for the Seahawks, who outshot the Tigers by an 11-8 margin.
The Tigers held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tigers will return home on Sunday afternoon to host Georgia State University at 1 p.m. while the Seahawks will travel to George Mason to face the Patriots.
