BALTIMORE, Md. ? Despite 12 digs from senior Kristina Shannon, the Towson volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at UMBC on Wednesday night. The Tigers (14-7) were playing their final non-conference contest of the year.
Towson jumped out to an early advantage with a 25-16 victory in set one. The Retrievers (15-6) bounced back with a 25-21 win in set two. UMBC took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-17 win in set three. The hosts clinched the match with a 25-16 victory in set four.
In addition to Shannon, the Tigers got a strong performance from sophomore Britney Loomis off the bench. Loomis knocked down 13 kills, hit .476, and had six digs and five block assists. Fellow sophomore Katee Luecke just missed a “double-double” on the night as she recorded 38 assists and nine digs. Senior Ally Perko had 11 kills and eight digs while junior Missy Rohrbaugh matched Shannon with a team-high 12 digs. Senior Maddie Haseltine produced 11 digs on the match.
UMBC was led by Kira Giles with 29 assists and 12 digs while Ashley Oscars finished with 11 kills. Pam Jarrett led all players with 14 digs on the night.
Towson returns to action on Friday night when the Tigers travel to George Mason for a 7 p.m. match.
