PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Freshman forward Kaysi Ward scored the first goal of her college career and senior goalkeeper Kendie Bauer made a career-high 11 saves, but the Tigers were unable to hold off a Drexel squad looking for its first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season as the Dragons (6-9-1, 1-6-1) rallied to earn a 3-2 double overtime victory over Towson (3-12-1, 0-7-1) at the Vidas Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The win snapped the Dragons' seven-game losing streak and marked their first victory since a 3-0 decision at UMBC on September 17.
Freshman forward Jenna Lindsay led the Dragons to the victory by scoring two goals, breaking the Drexel single-season goals record with her ninth and tenth goals of the year. Meanwhile, junior midfielder Carly Snyder tallied a Drexel single-game record three assists in the victory for Drexel.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when junior Erica Marshall scored an unassisted goal by collecting the ball off a Drexel turnover and scoring from eight yards out past senior goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond. However, the Dragons answered less than three minutes later when sophomore forward Daria Bialik scored off a corner kick by Snyder into the near post, tying the game at 1-1.
Just 25 seconds later, Ward regained the Tigers' one-goal advantage when she tallied the first goal of her college career off an assist from junior midfielder Brittany Hadaway. It was Hadaway's first assist of the season.
The Tigers held the one-goal lead until the 82nd minute when Snyder sent in a corner kick from the near side, which Lindsay collected and scored to tie the game at 2-2, sending the game into overtime.
In the second overtime period, the Dragons earned the win when Snyder fired a shot inside the box that was deflected by Bauer and hit off the crossbar. Lindsay collected the rebound and scored from close range with 3:49 left to secure the victory.
Bond made two saves in the victory for the Dragons, who outshot Towson by a 27-15 margin, including a 9-2 margin in the overtime periods. The Dragons also had a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
