TOWSON, Md. ? The Towson volleyball team extended its win streak to two matches with a 3-0 victory over UNC Wilmington on Saturday night. The Tigers (17-8, 6-3 CAA) received 10 kills from senior Maddie Haseltine.
“Every win that a team can get in conference play is critical with the league being so close matched this year,” said Coach Paul Koncir. “For us to get two wins this weekend both in three sets is a good step for us and we needed it with some big tests ahead.”
Towson jumped out to an early lead in the match with a 25-18 victory in set one. The Tigers followed that up with a 25-20 win in set two. Towson clinched the match with a 25-22 victory in set three.
Haseltine added three service aces and five digs to go along with her 10 kills. Senior Ally Perko and junior Missy Rohrbaugh tied for the team lead in digs with nine. Senior Valerie Chromy hit .667 in the match with eight kills and no errors in 12 attempts. Sophomore Shelynne Hoyt had seven kills, hit .400 and added four block assists while senior Kristina Shannon had eight digs. Sophomore Katee Luecke dished out 29 assists with seven digs.
Jacqueline Crane had 27 assists for UNC Wilmington while Ashlyn Morris contributed 13 digs. Rachael Caricato had a team-high seven kills and added five block assists. Megan Nash finished with six kills and six block assists for the Seahawks.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, October 31 at William & Mary. Match time is set for 7 p.m. with the Tigers looking to avenge one of their conference losses from earlier in the season.
