Towson Falls to Virginia Commonwealth 3-1

TOWSON, Md. ? The Tiger volleyball team saw its four match win streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to Virginia Commonwealth on Friday night at the Towson Center. The Tigers (13-5, 2-1 CAA) got nine kills and five blocks from junior Alysha Fanning.

The Tigers claimed set one by a 25-23 score before the Rams bounced back to take set two 25-9. Towson rallied to force extra points in the third set but the Rams held off a late rally to take that set by a 31-29 score. Virginia Commonwealth clinched the match with a 25-17 win in set four.

 

In addition to Fanning's nine kills and five blocks, the Tigers got a “double-double” from sophomore Katee Luecke. Luecke finished the match with 34 assists and 10 digs. Senior Ally Perko posted 10 kills on the night while junior Missy Rohrbaugh had a team-high 13 digs. Senior Maddie Haseltine also finished with double digit digs as she posted 12 on the night.

 

Virginia Commonwealth was led by Ivana Rich, who finished with 11 kills and five blocks while Laryssa Gonclaves had a match-high 17 digs. Cat Juson posted a “double-double” on the night finishing with 15 assists and 10 digs while Lenka Melicharkova contributed 26 assists and eight digs.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, October 4 when they play host to William & Mary. The Tribe were 3-2 winners over Delaware on Friday night. Match time at the Towson Center is set for 5 p.m.
