TOWSON, Md. - Making his Towson debut, junior Drew Pallace won a pair of individual events and was on a winning relay team as the Tigers opened their season with a 151-98 victory over Howard University in the season opener for both teams at Burdick Pool on Saturday afternoon.
After helping the Tigers win the 200-yard medley relay, Pallace won the 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 55.63 seconds. He also finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.11.
Junior Devin Kirby won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.05 while junior T.J. Farley finished in first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.30. Freshman Andrew Gschweng was second in the event with a mark of 1:03.06.
Senior Ryan Majek took first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.52 while junior Michael Kingman was third in the event with a mark of 2:04.38.
Making his college debut, freshman Jim Buck led the Tigers' sweep of the 50-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 22.59 seconds for a first place finish. Freshmen Mike Cheslock and Keith Nestman followed in second and third place, respectively.
Junior Bradley Bolin led the Tigers in the one-meter diving event by finishing first with a score of 147.50 points while freshman Ivan Valentine scored 139.80 points to finish second. Sophomore Zachary Wolfe scored 132.65 points to earn third place in the event.
Sophomore Zac Jelinek and freshman Eric Sparks took the top two spots in the 200-yard breaststroke. Jelinek won the event in 2:22.77 while Sparks was less than a second later to earn second place.
Junior Miguel Orellana led Howard in the meet by winning a pair of individual events. He recorded a time of 10:07.93 in the 1000-yard freestyle before winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.47.
The Tigers will continue their three-meet homestand on Saturday afternoon when they host William & Mary at Burdick Pool at 1 p.m.
