Tigers Drop Tough 3-2 Decision to William & Mary

TOWSON, Md. ? The Tiger volleyball team battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match but dropped the fifth set to fall 3-2 to William & Mary on Saturday night. The Tigers (13-6, 2-2 CAA) dropped their second straight match despite “double-doubles” from senior Maddie Haseltine and sophomore Katee Luecke.

The Tribe (13-3, 4-0 CAA) jumped out to an early lead winning sets one and two by 25-22 and 25-19 scores respectively. The Tigers battled back to take set three by a 25-20 score and tied the match with a 25-16 win in set four. William & Mary clinched the victory in the match with a 16-14 win in set five.

 

Haseltine finished with 21 kills and 12 digs on the night while Luecke had 57 assists and 14 digs. Senior Kristina Shannon posted a match-best 17 digs while senior Ally Perko contributed 11 kills. Senior Valerie Chromy knocked down 10 kills on the night while sophomore Britney Loomis had 12 digs.

 

William & Mary was led by Kim Mount and Lauren Powell on the night. Mount finished with 55 assists and 10 digs while Powell had 19 kills and 16 digs. Erin Skipper finished with 18 kills while Lindsey Pflugner had 12 digs. Bryana Carey and Jo Sotto had 11 digs each on the night.

 

The Tigers now take to the road for four straight matches. Towson will be back in action on Friday, October 10 when the Tigers travel to Delaware for a 7 p.m. match.
