Hofstra Nips Tigers, 1-0

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Entering their game against Hofstra on Sunday, the Tigers hoped to do something that no recent CAA team had been able to do as the Pride had shut out its last nine conference opponents. Despite several opportunities by the Tigers, the Pride kept their shutout streak with a 1-0 victory over Towson at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Sophomore forward Salma Tarik scored the game's only goal for the Pride in the 24th minute when she converted a corner kick from senior Marie Curtin for her second goal of the season.

The Pride nearly increased their lead to 2-0 three times with shots that hit off the post or the crossbar. Curtin hit the crossbar in the 33rd minute on a shot from 25 yards before a shot from 20 yards away early in the second half hit the left goal post.

Sophomore midfielder Tiffany Yovino put a shot from the top of the penalty area off the crossbar in the 81st minute for the Pride, who have not allowed a goal against a CAA foe since October 19 of last year against James Madison.

The Tigers also had an opportunity to tie the game with a pair of quality chances late in the second half. Junior Phyllicia Rosselli sent a cross into the middle in the 73rd minute which was punched away from goalkeeper Krysten Farriella. Junior Erica Marshall corralled the loose ball in the box and hit a shot from 12 yards out which sailed wide to the left side.

In the 89th minute, the Tigers had another chance to tie the game on a corner kick by Marshall. Freshman Meghan Clifton took a shot from 25 yards out that was stopped by Farriella.

Senior goalkeeper Krystal Robens made one save in the first half before being replaced by Farriella, who recorded two saves in the final 45 minutes. Meanwhile, senior goalkeeper Kendie Bauer made one save in a losing effort for the Tigers, who were outshot by a 12-8 margin.

The Pride also held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers will return home on Friday afternoon to host UNC Wilmington at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, the Pride will travel to Old Dominion on Friday evening.
