Towson Falls to Hofstra in Five Sets, 3-2

TOWSON, Md. ? The Tiger volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Hofstra on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson (18-10, 7-5 CAA) received a match-high 18 digs from junior Missy Rohrbaugh in the contest.

Towson jumped out the early lead in the match with a 25-22 win in set one. Hofstra rallied back and captured the second set by a 25-20 margin. The Pride took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 26-24 victory in the third set. Towson fought back and forced a fifth and decisive set in the match with a 25-18 win in set four. Hofstra captured the match with a 15-9 win in the final set.

 

In addition to Rohrbaugh's 18 digs, the Tigers got 16 kills and nine digs from senior Maddie Haseltine. Sophomore Katee Luecke posted her 10th “double-double” of the season finishing with 44 assists and 10 digs. Senior Ally Perko had 10 kills while fellow senior Kristina Shannon contributed 14 digs. Freshman Susan Gansor hit .318 with eight kills and four block assists.

 

Hofstra had five players hit for double digit kills and three of those four also reached double digit digs on the night. Lauren Engle finished with 15 kills and 10 digs while Harmonie Calinda recorded 12 kills and 12 digs. Monica Knight posted 12 kills and 14 digs while teammate Rachel August tied Rohrbaugh for the match-high in digs with 18. Sarah Lopez also had a “double-double” on the night with 47 assists and 13 digs.

 

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, November 8 to host CAA leading Northeastern at 5 p.m. Northeastern dropped a 3-0 decision to Delaware on Friday night. Towson needs one more win to secure a berth in the upcoming CAA Tournament.
