Tigers Tame Hounds 3-1

TOWSON, Md. ? The Tiger volleyball team recorded a 3-1 victory over Loyola College on Tuesday night at the Towson Center. The Tigers (11-4) trailed after the first set but battled back to take down the Greyhounds (3-11) for the victory.

 

“I think we got very solid performances from Britney Loomis, Shelynne Hoyt and Valerie Chromy tonight,” said Coach Paul Koncir. “Britney has really stepped up for us with Ally Perko out of the lineup and it showed again tonight and Shelynne and Valerie had solid performances when we need them.”

 

Loyola took set one of the match by a 25-22 score before the Tigers battled back to grab the 25-15 victory in set two. The Tigers then clinched the match with 25-15 and 25-14 wins in sets three and four.

 

Loomis had a big night for the Tigers finishing with 14 kills, hitting .278 with six digs. Hoyt hit .533 on the night with eight kills and she notched a career-high in blocks finishing with nine. Chromy hit .400 with five block assists while junior Missy Rohrbaugh led the squad with 13 digs. Senior Maddie Haseltine also finished with double digit digs on the night recording 11.

 

Loyola was led by Nina Camaioni who posted a “double-double” performance. She finished with 14 kills and 13 digs while Brittany Born posted a match-high 16 digs. Kristen Muscarella also contributed a “double-double” performance with 38 assists and 14 digs.

 

The Tigers are back in action on Friday, September 26 when they begin Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson travels to UNC Wilmington to begin the conference schedule with match time slated for 7 p.m.
