DAYTON, Ohio- The Towson University volleyball team dropped both of its matches on day two of the Dayton Flyer Invitational. The Tigers (5-2) fell to host Dayton by a 3-1 score in their first contest and to Northwestern 3-0 in the second match. Senior Valerie Chromy earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Against Dayton, Towson jumped out to an early lead with a 25-22 win in game one. The Flyers came back to claim a 25-20 win in game two and a 25-23 win in game three. Dayton clinched the match with a 25-17 win in game four.
Junior Alysha Fanning led the Tigers with 12 kills and six block assists. Senior Ally Perko and junior Missy Rohrbaugh tied for the team lead in digs with 15 apiece. Sophomore Katee Luecke handed out 40 assists and hit .308 for the match while senior Maddie Haseltine posted 12 kills.
Dayton was led by Nicole Bateman with 35 digs and Erin Schroeder with a “double-double” after recording 42 assists and 10 digs.
Against Northwestern, Towson fell 25-18, 27-25 and 25-18.
Chromy had nine kills and hit .538 while Luecke finished with 25 assists. Rohrbaugh posted 12 digs in the contest.
Northwestern was led by Chelsy Hyser with 11 kills while Elyse Glab finished with 29 assists. Kate Nobilio led all players with 18 digs in the contest.
Towson will look to snap its two match losing streak on Friday, September 12 as part of the NIU Invite II in DeKalb, Ill. The Tigers will face host Northern Illinois and Bradley on day one of the tournament.
