FAIRFAX, Va. ? Trailing by 10 points entering the final event against George Mason, the Tigers earned a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay. However, the Patriots claimed an important second place finish in the event to earn a 150.50-149.50 victory over Towson in a Colonial Athletic Association dual meet at the Jim McKay Natatorium on Saturday evening.
Senior Eric Pinno earned three individual victories in the loss for the Tigers. He posted a time of 20.96 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle before earning a victory in the 100-yard freestyle by completing the event in 46.84 seconds. Pinno completed the day by turning in a time of 1:56.25 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Pinno also swam the anchor leg in the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay as the Tigers posted a time of 3:09.89.
Meanwhile, senior Ryan Godfrey won a pair of individual events against the Patriots. He finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.42 while turning in a mark of 52.75 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly.
Sophomore Brendan Magarity finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.70 while senior Gordon Amato won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.45.
The Tigers, who started a three-meet road trip against the Patriots, will continue the trip next Saturday when they travel to Loyola for a dual meet against the Greyhounds at 1 p.m.
