Hofstra Defeats the Tigers 3-1

TOWSON, Md. - Hofstra defeated the Tigers 3-1 on Saturday night in Colonial Athletic Association play at the Towson Center. Towson (8-12, 1-4 CAA) dropped its fifth straight despite nine kills and three blocks from Shelynne Hoyt.

"We have to find a way to fight through injuries, youth, etc.," said Coach Paul Koncir. "When we go all out on the court I think we can play with anyone and we showed that in the first set but then we lost it and we need to find a way to play that way all the way through."

The Tigers jumped to an early lead in the match as they overcame eight ties to take a 25-23 win in the first set. Hofstra hit .433 in the second set and earned a 25-7 win to even the match at 1-1. The Pride extended their lead in the match with a 25-19 win in the third set. The two teams battled hard in the fourth set with 11 ties and five lead changes before Hofstra claimed the 25-20 victory and the 3-1 win in the match.

Hoyt had nine kills, hit .208 and two of her three blocks were solos. Britney Loomis and Evan Schulz both just missed a "double-double" in the contest. Loomis contributed nine kills, 11 digs and two service aces while Schulz posted 17 assists and nine digs. Missy Rohrbaugh led all players with 16 digs while Katee Luecke had 12 assists, two kills and four digs.

Chrissey Cruz finished with a "double-double" as she had 36 assists and 11 digs to lead Hofstra. Monica Knight had 12 kills and eight digs while Kylee Maneja finished with 13 digs.

The Tigers now take to the road for four straight starting Friday, October 16 at Georgia State. The match in Atlanta is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
