FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason hit .246 en route to a 3-0 victory over the Tigers on Friday evening in Colonial Athletic Association action. Towson (8-15, 1-7 CAA) got a team-high 14 digs from Missy Rohrbaugh but hit just .127 in losing its eighth straight match.
"Tonight we made some unfortunate errors and it cost us in the end," said Coach Paul Koncir. "Hopefully we can learn form the mistakes we made tonight and move here."
George Mason fought through seven ties and four lead changes to grab a 25-23 win in the first set of the evening. The Patriots held the Tigers to just a .079 hitting percentage in the second set and took the set 25-22. George Mason clinched the match with a 25-17 win in the third set.
Rohrbaugh added four assists to go with her dig total on the night. Britney Loomis contributed seven kills and eight digs while Stacey Niehoff had six digs. Katee Luecke and Evan Schulz split the setting duties as the pair recorded 14 and 11 assists respectively. Alysha Fanning and Kelsey Hoefer added six kills apiece.
George Mason was led by 11 kills and 14 digs from Noelle Fanella and 35 assists from Fernanda Bartels. Katrina Boryc had a match-high 15 digs for the Patriots. Rebecca Walters was the other Patriot in double figures for kills as she finished with 11.
Towson returns to action on Saturday at James Madison for a 7 p.m. match.
