Towson University Tailgating Policies and Procedures
Towson University recognizes that athletic events can be an important component of the University experience. We support game day activities that build community and offer an opportunity for social interaction in the support of athletic events. The following policies and guidelines are designed to clarify individual responsibilities. Please be mindful of the following policies:
- 1. All state and local laws and University policies are in effect during tailgating. Consistent with these, it is prohibited for a person under the age of 21 years to purchase, possess, consume, transport, or store alcoholic beverages.
- 2. Excessive amounts of beer and wine are not permitted, i.e., no more than one six pack of beer per person.
- 3. Hard liquor and spirits are prohibited during tailgating, including, but not limited to Jell-O-shots, shooters.
- 4. Beer kegs, party balls, multi-quart containers of beer, and all drinking paraphernalia (including, but not limited to funnels, beer bongs, ice luges) and drinking games of any sort are prohibited from tailgating because of the encouragement of rapid consumption of alcohol.

- 6. It is also prohibited for any person or group to purchase or give alcoholic beverages to a person under 21 years of age.

- 8. Glass beverage containers are prohibited.
- 9. General admission tailgating is located in designated parking lot(s). Tailgating is prohibited in any other area.
- 10. Tailgating is permitted up to three (3) hours before game time and ends when the game begins. Athletics may designate special groups or activities to be permitted to begin tailgating prior to the general population. Tailgating ends at the start of the game.
- 11. Tailgating is permitted for up to one-and-a-half (1½) hours after the game has ended.
- 12. Tailgating is prohibited during the game and at half-time.
- 13. Only one vehicle is permitted per parking space. Vehicles that leave the tailgating area will not be permitted to reenter without repaying.
- 14. The University reserves the right to restrict vehicles and designate parking spaces for safety reasons.
- 15. Active sports (e.g. Frisbee or football throwing) are allowed as long as the activity does not endanger anyone around them. Event staff may determine when active sports is dangerous to those around them or is inhibiting the event.
- 16. Tents, platforms, and stages are not permitted unless approved and reserved in advance.
- 17. Soliciting is not permitted. Sales by anyone other than approved University personnel are prohibited unless granted prior written approval.
- 18. Special rules and regulations can be established through the Tailgating Committee in order to manage unique events or circumstances, i.e., Homecoming.
