Tigers Fall at Binghamton 3-0

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton earned a 3-0 win over the Tigers in the opening match of the Binghamton Volleyball Classic for both teams on Friday evening. The Tigers (6-3) had a five-match win streak snapped with the loss despite eight kills and two blocks from Shelynne Hoyt.

Binghamton hit .346 to the Tigers' .074 and claimed the 25-15 victory. The Bearcats (3-4) extended their lead in the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. Binghamton claimed the match with a 25-16 win in the third set.

Hoyt hit .583 and added two block assists to go along with her kills. Britney Loomis finished with a team-high nine kills and five digs. Evan Schulz and Katee Luecke split the setting duties in the match and recorded 15 and 11 assists respectively. Missy Rohrbaugh and Rachel Gambow tied for the team lead in digs with seven apiece. The Tigers hit just .162 for the match.

Binghamton was led by Anna Lejina who had 16 kills and 15 digs for the "double-double". Michelle McDonough contributed a match-high 18 kills while Lindsey Mueller had 33 assists and six digs. The Bearcats hit .295 for the match.

Towson returns to action on Saturday, September 12 as day two of the tournament gets underway. The Tigers will face Cornell at 10:30 a.m. and Fairleigh-Dickinson at 4 p.m.
