Towson Comes Back to Defeat Maryland 3-2

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Trailing two sets to one, the Tigers rallied for a 3-2 victory over Maryland in their opening match of the Battle of Baltimore Tournament on Friday. Towson (3-2) won its second straight match and second straight against Maryland (2-2).

"I'm happy with the energy and contributions we got from everyone today," said Coach Paul Koncir. "We got key contributions not only from our starters but also from our bench and that was key." 

After the two teams split the first two sets in the match against Maryland, the Terrapins seemed to take control with a 25-16 win in set three. Maryland got five kills from Kara Bates and hit .292 to the Tigers' .154 in the set. Towson bounced back with a 25-20 win in set four behind five kills from Britney Loomis. Towson clinched the victory with a 15-6 win in the fifth set.

The Tigers got 11 kills apiece from Loomis and Taylor Hawkins in the match. Loomis would add seven digs while Hawkins had four block assists. Evan Schulz contributed 24 assists and four digs while Missy Rohrbaugh had a match-high 18 digs. Alysha Fanning finished with eight kills, three service aces, four digs and four block assists. Amanda Halls contributed 11 digs while Katee Luecke had 19 assists.

Maryland was led by Bates' 13 kills and Sam Rosario who finished with 17 digs.

The Tigers return to action on Friday night when they face Loyola (Md.) at 7 p.m.
