Tigers Fall to Delaware, 3-1

TOWSON, Md. - Delaware used 14 team blocks to help post a 3-1 win over the Tigers on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson (12-11, 0-6 CAA) got "double-double" performances from Katy Buck and Amanda Halls in the contest.

The first set was a battle the entire way through as the two teams played through nine ties. Katie Dennehy had four kills in the set to lead the Blue Hens (16-5, 5-1 CAA) to a 25-22 win. Delaware jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the second set. The Tigers pulled to within 17-14 on a kill by Susan Gansor. A couple of kills from Dennehy helped lift Delaware to the 25-20 set win and the 2-0 lead in the match.

The Tigers came out firing to start the third set. Towson opened up a quick 8-1 lead. Delaware cut the lead to 13-10 on a kill by Alissa Alker. Delaware took a brief 18-17 lead before kills from Halls and Gansor put the home team back on top 20-18. Towson would hold on for the 25-20 win in the third set. A kill by Karina Evans helped Delaware jump out to a 10-6 lead in the fourth set. The Blue Hens extended their lead to 17-12 behind a kill from Paige Erickson. Delaware would claim a 25-19 win and the match.

Buck's "double-double" was her fifth of the season. She tied her season-high with 15 kills while adding 18 digs.  Hall recorded her seventh "double-double" of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs. Luana Rocha started at setter and just missed a "double-double". Rocha finished with a career-high 25 assists and nine digs. Desiree Agader added a season-high 19 assists off the bench.

"I hadn't set in five years," said Rocha. "I felt comfortable though and I thought the team played well and if we can correct some of our mistakes this week in practice and play strong next week."

Dennehy lead Delaware with 11 kills while adding five digs and five block assists. Kim Stewart posted a "double-double" with 10 kills and 10 digs. Alker added nine kills, 10 digs and four block assists. Greta Gibboney added 12 digs while Evans finished with eight block assists.

The Tigers are back in action when they travel to Northeastern on Friday, October 22 for a 5 p.m. match.
