Tigers Fall at Northeastern, 3-1

BOSTON, Mass. - Northeastern hit .222 en route to a 3-1 win over the Tigers on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association play.

Towson started the match out hot, opening the first set with a 5-1 run. Northeastern bounced back to take a 16-14 lead in the set. A kill by Britney Loomis started a 5-0 Towson run and let the Tigers take a 19-16 lead. Loomis and Susan Gansor combined for three blocks at the net during that stretch. The Tigers would extend their lead to 23-18 before taking the first set by a 25-20 score.

Leading 8-7 in the second set, the Huskies went on a 6-0 run to open up a 14-7 lead. Northeastern would eventually extend its lead to 20-9 and take the second set by a 25-13 margin. Britney Brown had five kills and four assists in the set for Northeastern. The third set was the most tightly contested of the match as there were eight ties and two lead changes. With the set tied at 9-9, the Tigers went up 11-9 behind a pair of kills. Northeastern would tie the score at 11-11 as the two teams continued to battle. With the third set tied at 16-16, a pair of Janelle Tucker kills gave Northeastern back the lead. The Huskies would score nine of the final 16 points in the set to earn a 25-23 win and a 2-1 lead in the match.

In the fourth set, three straight kills by Brown would give the hosts a 12-8 advantage. A kill from Nicole Bishop later in the set gave Northeastern an 18-12 lead. The Huskies would take the set by a 25-15 lead.

Amanda Halls and Shelynne Hoyt led the Tigers with eight kills apiece. Hoyt would add five digs and three blocks in the match. Evan Schulz recorded 30 assists while Lauren Tonokawa added 13 digs. Gansor contributed seven kills and four block assists.

Brown led Northeastern with 13 kills and 22 assists while Tucker contributed 12 kills and nine digs. Jessica LaScola led all players with 32 digs while Ina Kamenova dished out 20 assists.

The Tigers (12-12, 0-7 CAA) return to action on Sunday, October 24 when they visit Hofstra for a 1 p.m. match. The Pride dropped a 3-2 decision to Delaware on Friday night.
