TOWSON, Md. - James Madison hit .295 en route to a 3-0 victory over the Tigers on Sunday afternoon in the Towson Center.
"James Madison ran an offense today that we struggled to keep up the speed to compete against," said Coach Bruce Atkinson.
The two teams battled early as there were seven ties before either team reached 12 points in the first set. The two teams continued to battle while a kill by Natalie Abel gave the visitors a 17-15 lead. That kill started a 4-0 run by the Dukes to give James Madison a 20-15 lead. The Dukes took the first set by a 25-18 score.
In the second set, James Madison jumped out to a 7-4 lead. A kill by Amanda Halls started a 7-1 Towson run and gave the home team a 10-8 lead. The Dukes responded with a 4-1 run of their own to take a 12-11 advantage in the set. James Madison would extend their lead to 20-14 before taking the second set by a 25-17 margin.
Behind four kills from Jessica Zeroual and six assists from Lauren Fanelli, James Madison earned a 25-19 win in the third set.
Katy Buck had nine kills and 10 digs for the Tigers while Evan Schulz added 25 assists. Shelynne Hoyt had six kills and three block assists while Lauren Tonokawa added 10 digs.
Danielle Erb finished with 14 kills while hitting .333 and adding eight digs for the Dukes. Katie Daorai contributed 12 digs while Fanelli posted 18 assists, eight digs and three service aces.
Towson returns to action when it visits William & Mary on Friday, November 5 at 7 p.m.
