Halls Leads Tigers to 3-0 Win at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Amanda Halls recorded her ninth "double-double" of the season to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 victory at William & Mary on Friday evening.

The Tigers (14-14, 2-9 CAA) jumped out to a quick 6-4 lead in the match behind a kill from Susan Gansor. William & Mary battled back to a take a 14-10 lead in the set behind a kill from Erin Skipper. The Tribe would extend their lead to 16-12 before the Tigers started their comeback. Alysha McCreary had back-to-back kills to help the Tigers tie the set at 17-17. With the set tied at 19-19, the Tigers scored six of the final seven points to take the set 25-20.

The Tigers and Tribe battled through several ties early in the second set. With the set tied at 12-12, the Tigers used some strong play at the net to open up an 18-14 lead. A Gansor kill extended the Tigers advantage to 21-17. The two teams continued to battle as a kill from Halls sealed the 25-22 set win.

In the third set, Towson held an 8-5 advantage before William & Mary battled back to take a 13-9 lead. The two teams traded points before a Gansor kill gave the Tigers a 15-14 advantage. With the match tied at 17-17, the visitors rattled off four straight points to take a 21-17 lead in the set. A Katy Buck kill put Towson up 22-19 in the set. Towson would claim the 25-23 set win and the victory in the match.

Halls led the Tigers with 14 kills and 15 digs for her ninth "double-double" of the season and 14th of her career. Buck added 13 kills and eight digs for the Tigers while Gansor finished with nine kills and hit .533 in the match. Stacey Niehoff had 11 digs while Lauren Tonokawa contributed 10 digs. McCreary had a season-high six kills and two blocks while Evan Schulz contributed 35 assists and eight digs.

Ginny Bray led William & Mary with 11 kills while Gina Lang added nine kills and 14 digs. Cassie Crumal had 32 assists and eight digs and Skipper contributed eight kills and five digs.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, November 6 when they play at VCU in a 7 p.m. match. The Rams dropped a 3-0 decision to Delaware on Friday evening.
