Tigers Fall to Ohio State, 3-0

CATONSVILLE, Md. - Ohio State hit .351 en route to a 3-0 win over the Tigers in the final match of the Madison Bingaman Memorial Tournament on Saturday night. Susan Gansor was named to the all-tournament team for the Tigers (10-3).

"Despite the score I am pleased with the way we played tonight," said Coach Bruce Atkinson. "After watching tape this morning, we were able to clean up some of the mistakes we made on Friday in our matches."

The Buckeyes hit .619 in the first set and got three kills and two blocks from tournament MVP Katie Dull. Ohio State posted the 25-13 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The two teams battled in a hard fought second set. The Tigers held a 7-2 advantage in the set before Ohio State battled back to tie it at 9-9. The two teams would continue to battle as there were 13 ties and five lead changes in the second set alone. The Buckeyes would eventually claim the 30-28 win in the set. Allie Schwarzwalder had two kills and five blocks in the third set to help Ohio State secure the 25-14 win and the match.

Gansor finished with seven kills and no errors in 13 attempts for a .538 hitting percentage in the match. She also added a block assist for the Tigers. Shelynne Hoyt tied Gansor for the team lead in kills with seven while adding three blocks. Evan Schulz contributed 28 assists and four digs while Lauren Tonokawa posted 10 digs.

Emily Danks led Ohio State with 10 kills, four digs and four blocks in the match. Dull added eight kills, three service aces, four digs and five blocks while Betsy Hone posted 30 assists.

The Tigers return to action Friday, September 17 when they travel to American for a 3 p.m. match as part of the Marriott Cavalier Classic/American University Tournament.
