Tigers Take Down UMBC, 3-1

TOWSON, Md. - Katy Buck had a career-high 22 digs to lead the Tigers past UMBC by a 3-1 score on Tuesday night in the Towson Center. Towson (12-6) remained undefeated against teams from the state of Maryland this season as "double-doubles" from Britney Loomis and Amanda Halls proved key.

"I'm pleased to get out of here with the win tonight," said Coach Bruce Atkinson. "We still made some little mistakes but when we slowed the match down we were able to work through it."

"I thought Katy did a great job filling in at libero for us in a position she doesn't normally play", added Atkinson.

The first set was a battle between the two squads that required extra points to decide it. With the set tied at 11-11, the Retrievers got back-to-back service aces from Ali Loynachan to take a lead they would not relinquish. UMBC earned a 28-26 win in the first set. The Tigers used a strong net game to help them take the second set and tie the match at 1-1. Towson got two block assists from Shelynne Hoyt while Susan Gansor had a solo block and an assist in the 25-23 set win.

Desiree Agader entered the match to set for the Tigers in the third set and responded with eight assists. Agader's helpers combined with eight digs from Buck in the set helped give the Tigers a 25-21 win. Three kills apiece from Halls and Loomis in the fourth set contributed to a 25-18 Tigers' win and the match.

Loomis finished with 11 kills and 13 digs for her second "double-double" of the season while Halls' "double-double" was her second straight and fourth of the season. She contributed 11 kills and 11 digs in the match. Buck's 22 digs were a match-high. Evan Schulz contributed 25 assists and five digs in the first two sets of the match. Agader finished with a season-high 17 assists, four digs and a service ace in her two sets.
