WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Towson University volleyball team hit .330 en route to a 3-0 victory at William & Mary on Saturday evening in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Tigers improved to 17-7, 4-3 CAA with the victory.
In the first set, the Tigers opened up a 12-7 lead behind back-to-back service aces by junior Aubrey Kirven. Towson would increase its lead to 18-11 behind a kill from sophomore Katy Buck. A kill from junior Karolina Sawaniewicz would give the Tigers a 25-16 set victory. Towson got five kills from sophomore Dayane Van Ass and hit .467 to earn the 25-22 set victory in the second set.
In the third set, the Tribe (7-12, 1-6 CAA) led 19-15 following a Tiger attack error. The Tigers would battle back as a kill from Buck tied the action at 21-21. A kill from Van Ass allowed Towson to come back in the set and earn the 25-23 victory and clinch the match.
Buck had 12 kills and six digs to lead the Tigers while Kirven added 38 assists, three kills and two service aces. Van Ass finished with 10 kills and three blocks while Sawaniewicz finished with seven kills, two service aces and four blocks. Freshman Paige Sekerak had 14 digs in the contest.
Monika Stanciauskas led William & Mary with 13 kills while Molly Krull had 21 assists.
Towson returns home on Friday, Oct. 21 to host UNC Wilmington in the Towson Center at 7 p.m.
