BOSTON, Mass. - Despite 33 assists and four digs from junior Aubrey Kirven, the Towson University volleyball team fell at Northeastern 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers (15-5, 2-1 CAA) saw their three-match win streak snapped with the loss.
Janelle Tucker had six kills to help the Huskies (11-4, 1-2 CAA) battle through five ties and three lead changes and take the first set 25-23. Trailing 9-8 in the second set, Northeastern went on a five-point run to take a 14-9 advantage. The Huskies would go on to take the second set 25-22 and a 2-0 lead in the match. Despite three kills apiece from sophomores Katy Buck and Dayane Van Ass, the Tigers fell 25-20 in the third set.
Buck led all players as she posted 18 kills for the Tigers while adding four digs. Kirven contributed two kills and a block in addition to her assists. Freshman Paige Sekerak led Towson with 12 digs while junior Stacey Niehoff contributed nine digs and two service aces.
Tucker led Northeastern with 12 kills while Ina Kamenova had 21 assists and five digs. Natalia Kiba finished with 18 digs and three service aces.
Towson returns home on Friday, Oct. 7 to host George Mason in the Towson Center at 7 p.m.
