WASHINGTON, D.C. – Towson freshman John Gartland won the 100 and
200-yard breaststroke events Saturday for Tigers. However, the team was
defeated in a close meet, 141-121 by the George Washington Colonials.
Gartland's time of 1:00.05 won the 100 and he
recorded a 2:12.16 time in the 200-yard breaststroke event as Towson took three
of the top four places in the event. Billy Pappas and Ryan Westhafer finished
third and fourth in the event for the Tigers.
Zack Stone's time of 4:43.07 won the 500-yard
freestyle and he also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle. Freshman Matt Collingwood finished second to Stone in the 500-yard freestyle for Towson.
Zac Jelinek won the 100-yard freestyle event and
also placed in the top three in a pair of individual events.
"You can't be disappointed in the
effort," Towson Coach Pat Mead said. "When you look at the times and
look at the performances, we are so much better than in the past four or five
years."
Towson (2-3, 1-2 CAA) will continue their season
Thursday Nov. 17 when they take part in the Maryland Invite as part of a
three-day event.
