Tigers Partner With CBS Collegiate Sports Properties

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University has agreed to a seven-year multi-media rights partnership with CBS Collegiate Sports Properties, as announced today by Director of Athletics Mike Waddell. CBS Collegiate Sports Properties will manage all of the Department of Athletics' marketing and multi-media assets and support in various ways, including the newly announced Tiger Arena.

“Partnering with CBS Collegiate Sports Properties at this point in our athletics evolution is a bold and exciting move,” said Waddell. “Towson and CBS are poised to move aggressively in maximizing the Tigers' brand. We are confident that this partnership will foster new opportunities for the continued growth for our University, for our friends in the corporate sector, and of course, for a positive impact on all of our student-athletes and fans of Towson University Athletics.”

Under the terms of the agreement, CBS Collegiate Sports Properties is responsible for generating sponsorship revenue through a variety of media outlets, including facility naming rights, comprehensive development of new media, television & radio game broadcasts and coaches shows, print applications, on-premise signage at Towson's athletics venues, and promotional events through Towson Sports Properties, CBS Collegiate Sports Properties' on-the-ground team at the University.

“It is an exciting time for Towson Athletics and CBS Collegiate Sports Properties is thrilled to be involved,” said Doug Paschal, Vice President and General Manager of CBS Collegiate Sports Properties. “Our main objectives will be to drive revenues and extend the brand of Tiger Athletics. We welcome and are proud to have Towson University as one of our collegiate partners.”

“As our department looks to grow over the next decade and beyond, the need for additional revenue made us look into ways to maximize our advertising opportunities,” said Mike Harris, Towson's Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations. “Our top priority in this new venture is to secure a partner who not only would help us reach the department's goals, but also understand and appreciate our University and the community's culture. CBS Collegiate Sports Properties fits that description and will help elevate our athletics brand and national reputation as a 'department on the rise.'”

About Towson University Department of Athletics
Towson University offers the most comprehensive sports program in the metropolitan Baltimore area, fielding 20 varsity teams that compete in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Since joining the league in 2001-02, the Tigers have won CAA titles in men's and women's lacrosse, women's swimming and diving, men's soccer and men's golf. During an athletics history that traces its roots to the 1920's, Towson has sent teams and individual student-athletes to NCAA post-season competition in baseball, basketball, football, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, track & field and volleyball. Tiger student-athletes have distinguished themselves in the classroom as well as on the field of competition. Eleven Tigers have been named CAA Scholar-Athlete Award Winners for their respective sports, including the 2010 cross country recipient, Brandi Gervais, a senior Biology/Pre-Dentistry Major with a perfect 4.0 GPA. A number of student-athletes have gone on to enjoy professional careers, including most recently Jermon Bushrod, the starting left offensive tackle for the 2010 Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints; outfielder Casper Wells with the Detroit Tigers; and shooting guard Gary Neal with the San Antonio Spurs. In May 2011, the department will break ground on the future of Towson Athletics as it begins construction of Tiger Arena, a new 5000-seat, state-of-the-art arena for basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. The new arena is slated to open in the Spring of 2013.
