BALTIMORE, Md. – Behind a
quartet of freshmen, the Tigers (3-6, 1-3 CAA) earned a victory over the Loyola
Greyhounds Saturday 154-140 at the UMBC Natatorium, but fell to UMBC 171-114 in
a separate dual meet.

Matt Lowe,
John Gartland and Matt Collingwood all earned top five
finishes Saturday, to lead a balanced team effort.
“Today
was a good day. For the men it was a great meet,” Towson Head Coach Pat Mead said. “The second half of the
meet, the guys did a terrific job really taking control of the meet. It was a
really good accomplishment.”
Gartland
finished both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events in fourth place,
defeating the top Loyola finisher in each event.
Lowe
was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle and third in the 500-yard freestyle.
Collingwood was third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.22 seconds,
while Disco took second place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of
1:59.53.
On
the diving boards, sophomore Alex Cohen
won both the one and three-meter dives. He scored 319.75 points on the
one-meter and scored 257.80 points in the three-meter event.
Towson
returns to action Jan. 27th for a meet with Johns Hopkins at Burdick Pool.
