Tigers Split With UMBC, Loyola Saturday

BALTIMORE, Md. – Behind a quartet of freshmen, the Tigers (3-6, 1-3 CAA) earned a victory over the Loyola Greyhounds Saturday 154-140 at the UMBC Natatorium, but fell to UMBC 171-114 in a separate dual meet.

Andy Disco, Matt Lowe, John Gartland and Matt Collingwood all earned top five finishes Saturday, to lead a balanced team effort.

“Today was a good day. For the men it was a great meet,” Towson Head Coach Pat Mead said. “The second half of the meet, the guys did a terrific job really taking control of the meet. It was a really good accomplishment.”

Gartland finished both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events in fourth place, defeating the top Loyola finisher in each event.

Lowe was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle and third in the 500-yard freestyle. Collingwood was third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.22 seconds, while Disco took second place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:59.53.

On the diving boards, sophomore Alex Cohen won both the one and three-meter dives. He scored 319.75 points on the one-meter and scored 257.80 points in the three-meter event.

Towson returns to action Jan. 27th for a meet with Johns Hopkins at Burdick Pool. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
